Tourist Information
Tourists have easy access to the cultural and entertainment
attractions of the nearby cities of San Francisco and Oakland. Major tourist
destinations include Lake Merced Golf and Country Club, Golden Gate National
Recreation Area, Thornton Beach etc. The San Bruno Mountain offers spectacular
views of the entire Bay Area and the Pacific Ocean. The city also houses the Cow
Palace arena which is the home for the annual rodeo event called the Grand
National Rodeo.
Daly City is served by the Bay Area Rapid Transit District
(BART) system. The system provides access throughout the East Bay, San Francisco
and the San Francisco International Airport. Daly City has two BART stations;
the San Francisco Municipal Railway (MUNI) and the San Mateo County Transit
District (samTrans). The bus service is available throughout the city.
The two major freeways serving the city are the U.S. Highway
101 and Interstate 280. Interstate 280 bisects the city geographically as well
as in terms of the areas, with the highest commercial and residential density.
Interstate 280 freeway is less congested than U.S. Highway 101 and is the
preferred route to San Francisco and other southern peninsula locations.
The San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is located
about 9 miles to the south of the city and is a 15-minute ride from the Daly
City BART station. The Oakland International Airport (OAK) is about 34 minutes
from the city by motor vehicle or about 60 minutes by BART and BART Shuttle.

General Information
The city is named after the businessman and landowner, John
Daly. The city is one of the few majority Asian-American cities in the
continental United States and is known for its large Filipino American
population. One of the potential downtown attractions in Daly City is Pacific
Plaza. Pacific Plaza, the city’s latest downtown streetscape project, is a 2.9
acre urban park. The plaza includes 600,000 square feet of class A office space,
an all-suites hotel, a 20-screen Cineplex and 40,000 square feet of retail and
restaurants. It has won various awards like Metropolitan Transit Commission’s
Award of Merit November 2002, California Redevelopment Association’s Award of
Excellence in March 2003 and San Francisco Business Times: Best Project –
Community Impact /Suburban award in April 2003.
Demographic Information
Daly City is situated in San Mateo County, California, United
States. The city is located at the northernmost edge of San Mateo County,
adjacent to San Francisco and extends from the Pacific Ocean on the west to
nearly San Francisco Bay on the east. The city is also known as the “Gateway to
the Peninsula”. It is located at 37°41′27″N, 122°27′57″W (37.690700,
-122.465950). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total
area of 7.6 square miles (19.6 km²). As per the census of 2000, there were
103,621 people, 30,775 households, and 23,081 families residing in the city. It
is among the most densely populated cities in the country, with a population
density of 13,703.8 people per square mile (5,292.1/km²). Dale City is bordered
by cities of San Francisco, Brisbane, Pacifica, South San Francisco and the Town
of Colma. The city includes seismic faults like the San Andreas Fault, the
Hillside Fault and the Serra Fault.
